Vancouver, BC, March 8, 2010--(T-Net)--AXYS Technologies today announced updates to the TRIAXYS sensor. The TRIAXYS Directional Wave Sensor was originally developed by AXYS Technologies Inc. in conjunction with the Canadian National Research Council (NRC) in 1998. The TRIAXYSTM sensor has recently been updated with several new features. The major change in 2010 involves the TRIAXYSTM sensor being configured by the WatchMan500 controller, the same controller as used in all AXYS monitoring stations.
The TRIAXYSTM Next Wave sensor includes the following new features:
Supports any Sensor. The TRIAXYSTM classic sensor is primarily a wave sensor with capability to interface and control a limited number of other sensors. With the addition of the WatchMan500TM, AXYS main data acquisition and control system used at the core of its monitoring solutions, the new and improved TRIAXYSTM Next Wave sensor can support and control any number of other sensor types: current profilers, wind sensors, air temperature sensors, CTD's, to name a few. This new feature will provide users a convenient, flexible, all in one solution, eliminating the need to purchase and install a stand alone controller.
Supports any Telemetry. The TRIAXYSTM classic sensor supports a small number of telemetry devices. Now that the WatchMan500TM forms the main controller inside TRIAXYSTM, many more telemetry devices can be supported. And new telemetry devices that are not currently supported by the WatchMan500TM can be in the future, simply by the creation of a device handler to talk to the telemetry hardware. This feature will allow users to transmit data from the TRIAXYSTM Next Wave sensor in virtually any geographic location where telemetry coverage exists.
Ability to Network. The TRIAXYSTM classic sensor, like most oceanographic sensors, typically operates as a stand alone device. Through the use of the WatchMan500TM controller and the Data Management Software (DMS), TRIAXYSTM Next Wave users can network their sensors together, allowing remote changes to be made across an entire array or down to an individual sensor. This increased flexibility to command and control saves users time and money.
Continuous Sampling. The original TRIAXYSTM classic sensor performed its wave sample (typically 20 minutes in an hour) and then spent the next several minutes processing and sending its data to shore. During this cycle, wave sampling was not possible. With Next Wave functionality, the new TRIAXYSTM sensor can now continue to sample waves during the processing and transmission cycles, eliminating any sampling downtime. This feature will be beneficial for mission critical applications that require constant sampling and data without time gaps.
50 Hertz Motion Sampling. The TRIAXYSTM sensor can be configured and sold as a motion or heave sensor. With the Next Wave functionality built in, the motion/heave sensor can be programmed to sample at up to 50 Hertz, and in future will reach 100 Hertz. This approaches the levels used by most motion compensation sensors. Previously the sensor sampled motion at 4 Hertz.
32GB Data Logging Capacity. The TRIAXYSTM sensor now includes an 8GB compact flash card expandable up to 32GB. This increased data logging capacity will allow users to store several years' worth of data inside the sensor, without risk of historical data being overwritten by compact flash cards becoming full. Earlier versions of the TRIAXYSTM sensor included a 1GB or a 2GB compact flash card.
Orders are now being taken for the TRIAXYSTM Next Wave sensor, with first deliveries expected to roll off the AXYS production line in May 2010. AXYS will continue to sell and support the earlier version of the TRIAXYSTM sensor for those clients who require them.
